Back from the hospital

Dear L,

Had a crazy last 25 hours.

I woke up sitting on a bench on the sidelines of a lacrosse game. Sundbyberg (us) vs. Söderköping (them). I asked Andreas what the score was. We were down, 8-6. Which was strange, since the last thing I remember was being up 3-1 at the end of the first quarter. It was the fourth. We got another goal and ended up losing by one. Some of the guys told me that I had been hit, but they seemed really rude/aloof about it. Maybe I had been asking over and over. At the end of the game, two guys from Söderköping came up and apologized to me. I smiled, "It's all part of the game, don't worry about it!" though I had no idea what happened. Still can't figure out how my left shoulder, right cheek, right temple, and back are all bruised from one hit.

At the hospital I had lunch through an IV and got x-rays on my shoulder. Daniel was nice enough to come sit with me and miss our 2:00 game and answer the doctors' questions since I didn't remember what happened. Mom made the two hour trip down from Stockholm to relieve Daniel and keep me company - thanks Mom!

I was taken to my room for the night. They gave me one of those finger-pulse readers which would beep if I died (and unfortunately also if my finger got sweaty and I was too slow changing it to another one). The next thing the nurses said was that the guy on the other side of the curtain was a little crazy. He kept ringing his alarm and then denying that he had done it once the nurses came. He would yell that he was hearing the voice of his fiance in the hallway. And yell about the rats under his bed. The nurses assured him those were just the wheels of his bed. Then he would warn me about the rats as soon as they left.

Mmmm breakfast.

Anyway they finally released me today with a swollen shoulder and bruised face but no more headache. I'm still worried about annoying people but I ask everyone who calls to see if I'm okay a quick question for another piece of the 45 minutes I don't remember (So what was I doing during halftime, just sitting there by myself on the bench? etc. etc.).

Hope the shoulder's better by Thursday when national team training starts up in prep for Manchester. Bad timing!

Love,
D

  2. my headache is finally completely gone! totally ridiculous experience. lynn i definitely laughed a few times too when that guy would deny having called the nurses... "well do you want anything even though you didn't ring now that i'm here?" "no everything's okay. (pause, nurse leaves) hey kid! you've been quiet for a while. you know i don't live here normally. you don't sound like you're from around here either. you know maybe we should get someone in here to look at these rats."
