Lunch. And the hike to Winkelmatten.

Dear S,

I'm so happy you sent me your address.

How has the follow-up with the teacher whose class you had to skip been? Is (s)he upset, thinking you're the 'slacker American' you were afraid (s)he would?

After four days of falling asleep right on time, my jet lag finally caught up with me last night. Or maybe it was the sunburn I got hiking Pilatus. Or maybe the coffee I drank during our evening Scrabble game. Anyway I ended up tossing and turning until the sun started poking through the mountains at about 5am! Which is only 11pm EST... Up around noon today to take an underground elevator to the top of a mountain facing the Matterhorn. We ate (and drank) a lot at a restaurant at the peak:

My brat.

SB and V's röstis.

People have recognized that I eat a lot and have started passing me their half-eaten plates of food at every meal once they're full. Which isn't as bad as my dad, who gets the same treatment with alcohol:

On the 60-minute hike down to Winkelmatten (Dad and V took the elevator back to town) from the restaurant, I got terribly lovesick, wishing you were here with us. The scenery just isn't as awing through a cellphone camera and I want to share it with you! We'll have to come back!

A playground on the side of the mountain.

SB taking a picture for the lovebirds.

What I wouldn't give for my mountain bike.

A and S, choosing the path less safe.

Finally made it back into town just before the storm (which was behind me as I took this photo).

I miss you so much.

Love.

D

  1. I'm not really sure how the teacher feels. She *said* everything was ok, but I have no idea if that's how she really feels...
